Twice the fight: 2 feature-length Dark Knight adventures! Cold-blooded crime comes to Gotham City: Archvillain Mr. Freeze kidnaps Batgirl, and the Dark Knight and Robin scramble to rescue her before she’s forever iced in the animated chiller-thriller movie Batman and Mr. Freeze Subzero. Ultra-cool style and excitement continue in the theatrical feature Batman Mask of the Phantasm, where we meet a hunted criminal named…Batman. Accused of murders carried out by a sinister masked figure, Batman is determined to clear his name. And that sets in motion a menacing, multi-layered tale filled with surprising revelations about our caped hero’s past. Expect the unexpected in "a mystery that is genuinely absorbing, suspenseful and moving" (Cincinnati Enquirer).

Customer Rating: Summary: The movies are both great, but don't bother with this DVD. Buy them individually. Comment: Both of these Batman animated films are great (though Mask of the Phantasm is by far the better of the two), but this DVD is a waste of money. Yes two films on one DVD sounds great, but for some reason WB decided to only include the "full screen", or as it should truthfully be called the "half the film image chopped off at the sides" versions of the films. Both films are available individually as widescreen versions (and they also include the "full screen" versions as seen here, but as far as I'm concerned it's never worth watching those hacked up versions of any films), and buying them each separately would only cost you a couple of dollars more. This double DVD was released in 2008, and in this day and age when everyone is buying widescreen HDTVs it is very stupid to not include widescreen versions. I can't imagine why studios even release so called "full screen" cropped DVDs at all anymore. Are there really that many ignorant people still buying them? If there are I can only laugh at them for buying "full screen" DVDs all these years to avoid having black bars on the top and bottom of their screen, and now they are all going out to buy widescreen HDTVs only to have a collection full of DVDs that will leave them with black bars on the sides of the screen instead, and still losing half the films image on top of that. In short go with the individual releases, and if you only go with one of these films make it "Mask of the Phantasm".
Customer Rating: Summary: Two great Batman films, So-So DVD Comment: "Mask of the Phantasm" and "Subzero" are two fine animated Batman films (two of the best animated films in general). But it's too bad that none of the DVD's, including this "Double Feature", have any interesting special features. There is lack of audio commentary, behind-the-scenes featurettes, deleted scenes, etc. And the quality of the movies themselves are only mediocre: none of them have been digitally remastered. I'm hoping there will be Special Editions of these two movies soon. But until then, I'll enjoy these for what they are.
Customer Rating: Summary: 2 for 1 Comment: Two movies for the price of one. I like the SubZero movie better, but still a great product for the price. Wish it was in 16:9 format.
Customer Rating: Summary: Continuing a great tradition.... Comment: SubZero was a good end to the original Batman: The Animated Series. It's like watching a long episode. Mask of the Phantasm is just one of the best comic book cartoon movies ever. One thing that I always liked about the 90's DC Animated Universe is that it really wasn't just for kids. They made it more accessible to adults. Both of these probably shouldn't be watched with very young kids alone. Get these for your collection if you like DC Animated.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great movies, insulting DVD releases and mislabled amazon entry as Widescreen Comment: Others have reviewed these 2 excellent films, this is focused on the DVD product here. No remastering, horrible PLII sound (no 5.1) and the complete slap in the face of a 4x3 cropped "fullscreen" version of Phamtasm. Not to mention the amazon listing shows both 4x3 and "widescreen" this is flat out false information. The menu for Mask shows in widescreen, as soon as you play the movie, it shifts to 4x3 and even has the dreaded "Has been formatted to fit your TV" insult. Umm my tv is 720p 16x9. This cropped DVD has *not* been formatted to fit "my screen" it was formatted to fit portable DVD players for kids on airplanes, the mistaken target audience.
The true target audience is adults who enjoy a darker batman instead of the chawrrible flaming camp of the Schuemacher films.
In short this disc was a mistake purchase, I assumed I was getting a 16x9 anamorphic Mask movie and a native 4x3 Freeze movie.
Also beware this is a double sided disc, on print art on the disc. It's almost as if they are encouraging people to pirate the movie instead as this release was straight up robbery.
