Summary: NOT MUCH ON THE SINGLE
Comment: The radio edit of WAITING FOR A SUPERMAN is just what you might expect it to be. It's not a reworking of the song, or an inventive restructuring of the idea, a dance mix, etc. The next two tracks, are ONE FOURTH of what each song from ZAREEKA should sound like. After inspecting all their SINGLES released for the SOFT BULLETIN project, I discovered they used RACE FOR THE PRICE pt. 1 for two Zareeka CD 1 tracks, and RACE FOR THE PRICE pt.2, to release two CD 2 songs from ZAREEKA. The two tracks are NOT REMIXES, but just one fourth of the sound of each song. WAITING FOR A SUPERMAN PART ONE has CD 3 from ZAREEKA, but just the same two songs found on the other singles, and WAITING FOR A SUPERMAN PART TWO has CD 4 from ZAREEKA, again with the same two songs. So, in order to hear JUST TWO SONGS from ZAREEKA, you would need to track down and buy these FOUR CD SINGLES. (and play them all at once, of course.) IT would cost more to do this, than to buy the whole ZAREEKA box set, which is STILL in print as of this review. NOW FOR THE SILVER LINING. IT is this version of "YOURE INVISIBLE NOW" (Riding to work in the year 2025) found on THIS CD SINGLE, which has a complete, normal version of that particular song on it. Therefore, if you DO want to hear this particular Zareeka song, without the extra sound effects, THIS IS THE ONLY CD where you can hear it, outside of buying the box set. Its a beautiful song, not at all unlike the songs on SOFT BULLITIN. (I found that on the ZAREEKA box set, for most of the songs, each song would sound complete, or "normal" on at least one CD.) That being said, the third song on this CD SINGLE, also from ZAREEKA, is NOT the core, or normal song. It has lots of loud sound effects of airplanes taking off. (DO NOT READ: BACK IN THE USSR). Besides the jet engines, you have two synth tracks, one track holding the melody, the other sort of droning a couple of cords. You can not actually hear TRACK THREE on this CD single, and enjoy it as a song, since it does not have the core song on it, only unessencial overdub parts. Unlike RACING FOR THE PRICE, at least with this CD SINGLE, they make a BIG POINT of stating upfront you are only getting two songs from THE THIRD CD from the four CD box set of ZAREEKA, something which they DIDN'T say on the WAITING FOR A SUPERMAN CD singles. I give this CD single an extra star, for AT LEAST being upfront with it's content. AND, who should buy this CD SINGLE? Completists, but only the most wealthy, and masochistic of completists. ALSO, those fans who might like to hear ONE SONG more or less complete, from the ZAREEKA project. If you want to go deeper into ZAREEKA than that, you'd be better off just buying the ZAREEKA box set, before it goes out of print. It's sort of sad, that FLAMING LIPS wont mix ZAREEKA down, and release it as a regular CD, because it really is beautiful. What's even sadder, is that with these FOUR CD SINGLES, they had the chance to release the whole album remixed, two songs per CD single, and blew it by releasing only two songs, each repeated, and sonically quartered, on the individual CD singles. (with all four CD singles requirering symotaneous playback, for the whole song to be heard as intended). WHO WANTS TO BUY FOUR CD SINGLES, just to hear two songs? What a terrible marketing ploy. So there you go.

Editorial Reviews:

The second single from the alternative rock act's 1999 album 'The Soft Bulletin'. Pt.1 is backed with 'Riding To Work In The New Year 2025 (You're Invisible Now)' and 'Thirty-Five Thousand Feet Of Despair' (both from 'Zaireeka CD No.3). Slimline jewel case
