Summary: a favorite in our house
Comment: My son, now 4 1/2, has been enjoying this video for two years. The footage is great and provides enough going-down-the-tracks imagery to satisfy him. We enjoy the narration, provided by an adult and children, and the words used for the alphabet are a cut above the usual selection. A favorite is N for Numbers, in which lots of trains' numbers are shown, and then the sequence is repeated.
As a mom, I appreciate the emphasis on train safety, as well as the description of the train's staff as a team. For a very young child, this video has depth in a very accessible presentation. For an older child, the details will please.
We have given this as a gift, and it was well-received by our young fellow train enthusiasts.

Summary: Simple format, but introduces children to REAL railroading
Comment: We received this as a Christmas present, and my children loved it! Best of all, the video utilizes some of the best preserved railroads in the country such as the Durango & Silverton and Illinois Railway Museum. Someone gave it a bad review and said it was only for "model train enthusiasts". I'm not sure which video he was watching since it contains real life trains (Santa Fe & Burlington Northern) as well as museum trains and only on the letter 'Z' does it even show an LGB set around someone's pool. I would even recommed that most adults watch it once, just for the educational value of seeing today's railroads in action!

Summary: A Must-Have for your Little Train Addict!
Comment: My 2.75 year old is a bona fide train addict. Although he likes Thomas, he prefers the real thing. I bought The Alphabet Train in an attempt to sneak in a little education along with his trains. At the beginning, preschool boys sing the ABC song, and then the narrator presents each letter of the alphabet along with words that are associated with trains. The letter is first shown on the screen, then the word or words, so the child gets to hear and see the letters and words. The narrator also teaches the children about different kinds of trains, how trains work, and there is a lot of information about train safety. The preschool children's voices are heard throughout the video as well. My son LOVES it. Not only does he get his train fix, but he is learning his letters. His 5 year old brother is learning new words, too! If you have a child who loves real trains, get this one - its educational value makes it okay to play it over and over!

Summary: My son loves it!
Comment: We bought this video as a souvenir after a ride on a train, but my son loves to watch it often (he's almost 4 now) Each letter has several video clips of real trains in action and he loves to tell me what letter and train is coming next when we watch it together.

Editorial Reviews:

From A-to-Z, "Amtrak-to-Zephyr", packed with one full hour of fun and learning, this exciting video enhances children’s natural learning ability while exploring some of the coolest aspects of real trains.

Your child will develop skills in vocabulary and phonics, and while interacting with our kids on the video will explore: "in & out", "over & under", "teamwork", "above & below", "off & on", "same & different", all sorts of really cool trains and their sounds, train safety, railroad jobs from "Brakeman-to-Yardmaster" and of course, The Alphabet.

Written by a mother of two/professional day care provider, and teamed up with awesome footage from award-winning producer Les Jarrett, this video is sure to please the whole family.

Ages 3 to 6 years. Endorsed by Kids First. Telly Award Winner.

Kids liked the VHS version of this program so much that many parents call to tell us that they need to order another one because the child has worn the first copy out!
