Summary: oh poop, won't scoop
Comment: The first thing my son wanted to do was scoop dirt with 'ol Alfie, but alas, you can't, its a solid scooper!
After picking around at it later, I discovered that it has a magnet inside, probably to be used with other overpriced Thomas the Train accessories.

Comment: Alfie is a bright green excavator who makes even the toughest job in the quarry look easy. He is friendly, helpful and loves to do all the dirty work. In fact, his favorite expression is "more dirt means more fun". Alfie is perfect for any off track adventure and he can be seen in the "New Friends for Thomas" video.
As with all the newer additions to the Thomas line, Alfie's construction is very sturdy. His movable arm carries magnetic cargo, and my son often pairs Alfie up with Jack for "construction work" on the lines around the Island of Sodor.
Highly recommended!

Summary: A great toy but...
Comment: My 2.5 year old son was so excited to get Alphie, it was all he talked about for weeks. While the toy is cute and durable like all of the Thomas Friends, we were both very disappointed to discover the scoop is a solid piece instead of a hollow working scoop. He still plays with Alphie all the time but comments from time to time that Alphie's scoop is "broken".
