Summary: There are better Christmas-themed train sets out there
Comment: Want a durable, Christmas-themed toy train set that you can run year-round, as well as underneath the tree come December?
Don't look here, cause this ain't it
Instead, I recommend you purchase the Lionel 'Polar Express' set in O-27 gauge, which includes a die-cast steam locomotive (also equipped with a smoke generator and whistling tender), as well as three passenger cars. The Lionel set is also expandable, and can be found here at Amazon.com.
Lionel trains are built to last for generations, so don't cheat yourself out of a great train set through the purchase of a flimsy plastic imitation... buy the 'Real McCoy' and see for yourself.

Summary: Great for awhile. Worth the price
Comment: Bought this train about 6 years ago. For the price, it was amazing. Lots of detail, moving
parts, lights and sounds. It earned its price. But after a few years cheap construction began to
show. Connecting the track with circuit continuity became a challenge, even with a voltmeter.
The clips that were to connect the control and Santa's Station worked intermittantly.
That plus the frequent derailments, present from the beginning, made the whole experience
more frustrating tan fun for me, and my 5 and 9 year olds. Tonight, it is going in the
trash. Summary: its worth the price but don't expect it to last for long. Perhaps with solder...

Summary: Love it! Love it! Love it!
Comment: After 10 years, I finally decided to replace my old battery operated train set which took 5 AA batteries that I change at least 3 times each season. I wanted the new train to be the same size but unfortunately, I already got rid of the box and I could not find the "gauge" anywhere on the train. I saw this product on Amazon and looking at the pictures, I knew it was the right size. After a few tweaks, I finally got everything to work perfectly. I love the fact that there is a "mute" button for when I just want to listen to Christmas music and watch the train go around the christmas tree. The details and animation are amazing. Now, I'm thinking of hooking it up to an electric power to send a shock to whoever wants to touch it (just kidding).

Summary: Perfect for christmas
Comment: Before purchasing I read all the other reviews. With the knowledge gained from these I was able to set the tracks and train up perfectly. We have run it very successfully with no problems and really are impressed with it. It is something that my wife has always wanted and she is just delighted with it, the grandchildren all love it and fingers crossed it will give us all a lot of satisfaction for years to come.
Living in New Zealand meant that we had to get it set to friends in America and they forwarded on, we hope that next time we visit America to pick up extra carriages and track.

Comment: I'm the 9 y.o. daughter who placed this review. This train is for my 1 and half year old brother. He loves the control. He squeels whenever it starts moving. But I wish it was bought for me. the detail is amazing and the animation is spectacular. It's like a moving Christmas tree with the twinkling lights. The moving elves are so cool. The only problem is it won't go if the wheels are not properly on the track. And, it takes time to put the wheels properly on the track. As long as you don't touch it your fine but it's hard not to keep near the train and not touch it. Overall I'm glad my mom bought it. It's the best toy train I've ever seen.
