Summary: Toad is a brake van, the english equivalent of caboose
Comment: Non anthropomorphic brake vans appear in many of the original stories as well as the early videos. Toad is a recent character and most likely one of many one offs that they have produced to sell product. Still, if you need an end car, Toad is your only choice.
